Dr. M.
C. Bansal was born on January 30, 1946 at Meerut. He had his entire
education in Roorkee till B. E. (Chemical) which he passed from
University of Roorkee in the year 1967. After completing his M. E.
Chemical from Indian Institute of Sciences, Banglore, he joined
Department of Chemical engineering in the University of Roorkee, as
Lecturer, in July 1969. He obtained his Ph. D from University of Roorkee
in the year 1978 on studies of Reforming Reactions with Catalyst
Deactivation in Tubular Reactors. |

In
January 1981 he joined the post of Assistant Professor in the Institute
of Paper Technology, Saharanpur, which was functioning as an academic
department of the then University of roorkee and now that of IIT Roorkee.
Since March 1998, he continued at the post of Professor (Pulp &
Paper / Chemical Engineering) at this department.

From June 1, 1988 to May 30, 1991 he was Director of the Institute of
Paper Technology for a tenure of three years. He was editor-in-chief of
IPPTA Journal for three years and is currently Editorial-Advisor of the
Same. He has been working on many paper industry related problems, and
has coordinated two important projects assigned to the Institute by the
Network for Industrial Environmental Management (NIEM) of United Nations
Environmental Programme (UNEP) on Utilization of Agri-residues in small
paper mills. He has guided many M.E. and Ph.D. scholars, and has
published and presented 33 research papers. He has been actively
participating in many HRD programmes / workshops / seminars from time to
time and has coordinated many of them for National and International
agencies. He is a member of many important National Committees in the
field of Pulp and Paper. Considering his wide experience in teaching,
research and administration, he was again made the head of department
(earlier IPT) from September 1997 to December 2000 for his second
tenure, which he had completed very successfully. He has visited many
countries during this period, in connection with his research amd
academic responsibilities.

Dr. Bansal is greatly interested in many social activities and was
president of Lions Club Saharanpur, he is an active member of Bharat
Vikas Parishad and many other social organizations in Saharanpur. He was
actively associated in getting the Saraswati Temple constructed at the
Saharanpur campus of IIT Roorkee.
